So some people harboured ideas of ISB being the hard work/ study capital of the B-school world. Well, I say, those people should have seen what happened today on campus. For the cricket capital of the world India, today was a biiiiig day – the IPL finals were happening at Wanderers between Deccan Chargers (Namma Hyderabad team) v/s Royal Challengers Bangalore. And guess what? The match has been the talk of the town, and everyone has been busy taking sides. Even those who used to cheer
for Mumbai Indians or the Chennai Super Kings, and are now supposedly neutral, had a point or two about / against either team. Call it V for Vendetta against the team that defeated their favorite team, or plain cricket craze, everyone has been singing the IPL song.
And how did we on campus get into the mood of cricket? Well, we screened the IPL match at the Rec Center lawns for all to see. Food, high spirits, and cricket – a deadly combination indeed. And people turned up in drones. Marketing cases, Accounts assignments, imminent end terms notwithstanding. And we watched the match on the lawns along with our DEAN! We cheered with our faces painted holding team stickers et al. And not just us, our profs from Wharton got to see the Indian Cricket mania first hand! Bangaloreans cheered for the place where their heart lay, while the rest of us cheered for our present ‘homeland’ – Hyderabad. And some of us, just joined in the cacophony, irrespective of the side the noise came from! That’s where I began writing this post, till rain began to play spoilsport! But something like rain could not have put off the rockstars of ISB! So into the shelter, we scampered in a hurry, not wanting to miss the last part of the Hyderabad innings. And together we screamed, at every Deccan Charger 6. And together we booed at every Decc
an Charger wicket. Together we ‘hawed’ as Royal Challengers smashed the ball to the ropes. Together we bit our nails in the last over. And TOGETHER we jumped for joy, as Deccan Chargers won the match!
What’s the deal you ask? Well, simple. For someone like me, who is not even remotely a fan of the willow, the event stirred up enough to warrant a post up here on the blog!  Not just the thrilling nature of the match, but the electric mood around the giant screen managed to charge up anyone and everyone. So people had marketing cases, accounts assignments, and a huge workload but the one thread that binds the nation, also seemed to bind students on campus.
So, we manage to have our own fair share of fun, in the midst of all the work and for us at ISB, it really is ALL WORK AND ALL PLAY….
Cheers,
Sindhu Subramaniam (Co10)
