Mr Santosh Anoo – Senior Manager at Deloitte’s Strategy & Operations (S&O) division gave the pre-placement talk to the batch. He dealt with a variety of issues ranging from the consulting process and Deloitte’s way of doing things to the work-life balance at Deloitte. Along the way he shattered several myths associated with a consulting career. Santosh identified the following skills and attitude required to make a mark in the consulting domain.

Skills:

1.      ability to learn and think creatively about a problem,

2.      strong capability to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze complex issues,

3.      desire to take initiative and fill leadership roles

Attitude:

1.      being flexible – the job changes every day,

2.      a desire to work in groups, both with clients and other consultants

3.      A comfort with uncertainty

Deloitte has the following levels in the organization: Consultant, Senior Consultant, Manager, Senior Manager and Partner. Deloitte hires at Consultant level from ISB. Typically it takes 2 – 4 years to progress from Consultant to Senior Consultant, depending on the work experience and performance.

Deloitte has four functional areas that provide a diversity of specialized offerings and bring their clients a high level of client service. The four functional areas are Audit and Enterprise Risk Services (AERS), Consulting, Financial Advisory Services (FAS) and Tax.

Within its Consulting practice, Deloitte has the following sub-divisions: Enterprise Applications, Human Capital, Strategy and Operations, Technology Integration and Extended Business Services.

Deloitte S&O practice has 110 consultants in India and around 2500 consultants in USA. In 4 years Deloitte plans to grow to 350 consultants in India. Deloitte S&O practice in Hyderabad primarily works for US clients and European clients. 50-60% of the work is done in India and the remaining work is done at the client’s office. Most of the corporate strategy work takes place at the Deloitte’s office and consultants need not be present at the client’s office.

Consumer and industrial products, energy, financial and telecom are some of the sectors that Deloitte’s India office works on.
